Bandwidth, worked out before you buy.
Find out how much network speed and recording storage your CCTV needs, what internet plan your office or shop really needs, or how long a big file will take to send. Results update as you type.
Estimates, not guesses.
Typical bitrates
We start from about 4 Mbps for Full HD at 25 fps on H.264 High, scale it by the real pixel count of each resolution, then adjust for compression, frame rate, image quality and movement. If you know the actual bitrate from the NVR, type it in and we use that instead. Storage adds about 10% for the recorder's file system.
Per-activity usage
Each activity uses a typical amount of speed, for example around 4 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up for an HD video call. We add them up for the busiest hour and add spare capacity so things don't slow down at peak time.
Bits, not bytes
Internet speed is sold in megabits; files are measured in megabytes. One byte is 8 bits, so a 100 Mbps line moves about 12 MB a second at best, and a little less in practice.
Real numbers depend on the exact cameras, lighting, night-time IR noise and your provider. For a figure you can rely on, we check your site and equipment for free.
